First they came for the discount cigarettes smokers, but said nothing because I didn’t smoke cigarettes. Then they came for the cigar smokers, but I said nothing because I didn’t smoke cigars. Then they came for the pipe smokers, but I said nothing because I didn’t smoke a pipe. Then they came for me, but there was no one left to say anything. Ladies and gentlemen, I was up here a few weeks back telling you about the joys of pipe smoking. We had some laughs, some enlightenment, and I think you got to know the pipe smoker a little better. But I come to you today to speak on something far more grave, something far more dire, something that affects all of us. Not since the McCarthy era has they been a more deliberate threat to our civil liberties. I, of course, am talking about the growing hatred and intolerance toward smokers of tobacco. I’m sure all my fellow smokers know the routine. Those of you who smoke cigarettes, and I do know there are quite a few of you, have surely experienced the forced cough, the jeers just loud enough for you to hear, the general intolerance of your life choices. If it were any other habit you wouldn’t be attacked to such a degree, but not so with smoking.cigarettes

I have sold my watch, so as to buy tobacco for cigarettes. I can live without a watch, but not without cigarettes, that is shameful, but a necessity. Somehow I must get some money or I shan’t have any clean clothes to wear. Clean collars are things I can’t do without. A person’s happiness depends, yet does not depend, on such things. Happiness? No. But one should be proper. Cleanliness alone is a joy. I’m just talking. How I hate all the right words! Today the Fra"ulein cried. Why? Halfway through the class, tears suddenly poured from her eyes. It strangely moves me. Anyway, I shall have to keep my eyes peeled. I like listening for something that doesn’t want to make a sound. I pay attention, and that makes life more beautiful, for if we don’t have to pay attention there really is no life.Parliament Cigarettes

Another problem with these displays was, it was far too easy for youth to steal Davidoff Cigarettes or chewing tobacco. They often faced conveniently away from the cashier, where tobacco was easy for kids to shoplift. In some States, laws have been passed requiring stores to keep the displays behind the counter, out of reach. In some States, they are starting to cover them with plastic. But the tobacco displays are still right on the countertops in many States. And either way, they are often at child eye level. How do you feel about that? It makes me angry and sad, and my feelings help me renew my commitment to the anti-smoking cause. I personally believe that to protect our youth, 'spit' tobacco, along with cigarettes, should be kept under the counter, totally unseen by customers. The old saying applies: out of sight, out of mind. Then only already-addicted, existing customers would think to ask for these deadly products by name. For now, though, Freedom of Speech protects tobacco advertising.camel

Cigarette maker R.J. Reynolds has started marketing a new variety of Camel cigarette designed to appeal to women, Brandweek reported Feb. 12. The camel -- marketed as "light and luscious" despite a federal judge's ruling against using the term "light" to sell cigarettes -- is seen as a way to attract women to Camel, which traditionally has appealed primarily to men. Only about 30 percent of current Camel smokers are female. "Many female adult smokers told us we really like Camel's irreverence and authenticity, but we really don't feel you have a product that is meant for us," said Cressida Lozano, vice president of marketing for Camel. "So, [we developed] a product that will appeal to them." Packaging for the cigarettes includes colors like fuscia and teal. Ads are running in magazines like Glamour and Vogue.camel

There is a substantial feral population of dromedaries estimated at up to 700,000 in central parts of Australia, descended from individuals introduced as means of transport in the 19th century and early 20th century. This population is growing at approximately 11% per year, and in recent times, the state government of South Australia has decided to cull the animals using aerial marksmen, because the buy camel cigarettes use too much of the limited resources needed by sheep farmers. As the thread title says, I managed to get through a day without smoking cigarettes. This is nothing special, since I caught a cold and I'm coughing, so I shouldn't be smoking. But there were times when I was dumb enough to smoke while coughing, which is probably the most devastating thing you can do to your respiratory system. :uhh: So, I'm showing progress. o:) Anyway, I'm very interested in how long I'll last without cigarettes. Tomorrow is the test day number 2 - wish me luck! :tongue2: I wish you good luck, radou! I hope you succeed. My wife smoked for ~15 years (up to a pack a day) and quit just after we got married. She used the nicotine gum to take the edge off the cravings. She hasn't smoked in 20+ years. The first few months were somewhat difficult and there were times when she got cranky. As for whether or not pipes and cigars are not as bad as cigarettes, there is a risk of mouth and throat cancer from chronic exposure to pipe and buy cigarettes, as opposed to lung cancer from inhaled tobacco smoke. Of course, there are some folks who smoke into the old age. An occasional smoke is perhaps not so bad. Best to quit if one can.Buy cheap cigarettes

I think the sandwiches at Saigon Sandwiches and Deli are pretty good. The bread is always crusty, and they are generous with their pickled vegetables. The prices seem high, but I've noticed that the prices for Banh Mi are rising in the area (A Chau's Banh Mi now top $3). The Little old Lady gets more friendly as she gets to know you. On my last visit, as I was waiting for my order she handed me the shop's business card, and told me, "next time call ahead, and you won't have to wait". I've also noticed that the shop has a table right outside that is always full of people drinking coffee and other drinks having a good time. so next time you need some Vietnamese Phone Cards....or maybe some Vietnamese buy cheap cigarettes, give SaigonSaigonswdeli06 Sandwiches and Deli a try.cigarettes

New research shows how the body's reaction to Cigarettes Story smoke leads to emphysema. This offers For decades researchers have speculated that it is the body's own chemicals, mustered to defend against irritants, that bring on the inflammation and lung-cell destruction of emphysema, a disease that eventually develops in many people who smoke. Now scientists at Washington University in St. Louis have proved this to be true in mice. And because lung function in mice is so similar to that in people, they say, the finding may point to a way to prevent the disease. In the study, being reported today in the journal Science, Dr. R. Dean Hautamaki, Dr. Steven D. Shapiro and their colleagues showed that in mice that developed emphysema after repeated exposure to cigarette smoke, it was a substance made by immune-system cells that attacked the molecule giving lungs the ability to expel air. If the same mechanism is discovered in people, researchers may be able to find a way to suppress the action of the renegade substance. "This is a landmark paper," said Dr. Gordon L. Snider, chief of medicine at the Veterans Affairs Medical Center in Boston. Dr. Ronald G. Crystal of New York Hospital-Cornell Medical Center added that "this is an important observation, because it gives a target toward which a therapy for the disease could be developed." By various estimates, emphysema afflicts at least two million Americans and possibly several times that number. It is one of several diseases in the category called chronic obstructive pulmonary disorders, which together are the fourth-leading cause of death in the United States, and is caused chiefly by smoking. Emphysema results when an irritant causes inflammation and stretching of the air sac cells in the lung; ultimately the cells collapse. The key to healthy lungs is the molecule called elastin, which gives cells in the air sacs their ability to snap back and exhale air after it is breathed in. By contrast, in people with severe cases of emphysema "the lungs look like big, floppy, empty bags," Dr. Crystal said. "The people can get the air in, but not out," he said, and so their power to take in oxygen is greatly diminished. Thirty-five years ago scientific papers began showing that one body chemical, the elastase that is made by cells called neutrophils, can attack and destroy elastin. But this chemical is now believed to cause only a tiny amount of lung damage. In the new paper, however, the group at Washington University showed that in emphysema caused by smoking, a different elastase, this one made by immune-system cells called macrophage, may be responsible for far more lung damage. The researchers exposed two groups of mice to cigarettes smoke twice a day, six days a week. The mice got enough smoke, said Dr. Shapiro, one of the authors, that they began enjoying their smoke treatment. "After a while," he said, "they just started running into the chambers" where the treatment was applied. "They loved it."Created with ShoutPost
